Was pleasantly surprised when I read this piece of news a few minutes back.
Chances are that India might qualify to super 8’s…Three Bangladeshi players
including captain tested positive for Dope Test.
If Ban is banned from WC, next team in same pool will take its place..which is
India…

India’s back-door entry?

Where’s The Creativity? March 26, 2007

“Hu Ha India” goes the war cry in those silly Pepsi ads. Why do all such ads come on screen every time India has their backs on the walls? Anyways, as I look at advertisements today, I wonder where has the creativity disappeared? There was a time when Indian ads were known for their content and sense of humour, but now every ad prompts you to utter “phatta”. A case in instance is Sprite. I remember when it was first launched, they aired some really innovative ads. But its latest advertisement where two monks harp on the usefullness of the drink belies one’s expectations. Then there’s the “Gopal” ad where the “kisser boy” of Bollywood, Emraan Hashmi, does those silly little stunts to get his dose of ‘gutka’. And why on earth do people like Sachin and Amitabh act in those silly little “Navratna oil” and “some x-y-z cheap biscuit” ads? Rather than they adding to the company’s brand value, they seemed to be lowering their own standards. Such ads only suit people like Govinda. Of late, I’ve just seen only a couple of good ads… The Aditya Birla Group’s ad in which stunning graphics are embedded and the Raymond ad. In fact the “Complete Man” series is quite an emotive one which never fails to make you smile. However, this is too short a list. In fact, I can confidently say that the ‘ad-zap’ winners at the IIIT can do a much better job in most companies.

Hoping for more innovation in future ads.

What A Nation! March 23, 2007

* Expectations have soared followed India’s recent wins against the Windies and Lankans. However, the men in the colour of the sky fail to repeat their feats against an inspired Bangladesh. The entire nation goes berserk with the not-too-long-ago-touted-rockstar Dhoni’s house in construction being attacked. Burning effigies is the order of the day and the entire nation ‘condemns’ the team unanimously.
* Dr. Rajkumar, Karnataka’s biggest superstar ever, dies a ‘natural’ and peaceful death. His fans go crazy in the ‘investor friendly’ and ‘software hub of India’, Bangalore. His followers burn up buses, trains, stop business, close shops and go on a rampage in general. Insane. It would have made sense had Rajkumar been murdered or something, but this… it was outrageously crazy.
* Some fanatic Muslims burn up a coach carrying some fanatic Hindus, killing 50+ people. The crazy bastards respond back by killing more than 1000 Muslims in Gujarat.
* The Left party opposes investors and growth wherever they are in opposition, citing the plight of farmers who, according to them, are ‘forced’ to surrender their lands. When it comes to West Bengal, a state where they have had a vice like grip for nearly three decades, they take a U-turn. Just look at what happened in Nandigram!

Welcome to India!

10 Best Places To Hang Out In Hyderabad – Part 2 March 7, 2007

Well, it’s been quite a while since I wrote the first part. Here is a new list:

Mzuri Sana (Jubliee Hills) : One of the consequences of the new coffee culture in India. It has a laid back feel about it… perfect to spend a few hours with friends. The hookah and coffee are not bad either.

Knock 10 (MPM, Abids) : I’ve always felt about the lack of good gaming and bowling parlours in Hyderabad… Here’s one decent place.

Ohri’s (Banjara Hills) : One of the favorite eat out’s for IIITians, they’ve got a pretty good buffet. One of the few places in Hyderabad which is open well after midnight.

NTR Gardens (Necklace Road): A really chill place, even better so due to its vicinity with Prasads and Eat Street.

Bottles and Chimneys (Begumpet): Among the top pubs in town. Has special attractions like their rock shows and celebrity DJs.

Lifestyle (Begumpet): Great place to shop (or window shop :D). Also has 10D, and other popular hangouts nearby.

Barista (Kavuri Hills): One of the pioneers of the coffee culture. They serve amazing coffee and chocolate pastries.

Javagreen and WebWorld (@many places): Eat, drink, play stuff and generally hang out.

Secundrabad Club (S’dbad): If you are a member, this is the coolest place you could have ever imagined!

NBH-47 (IIIT): Of course! The endless BCs we’ve had over there.
